You spend over 50% of your time at work, so naturally the choices you make here directly impact your well-being. The Recreation and Parks Department, in partnership with the Health Services System (HSS) is committed to creating a happy and healthy culture. After all, our Strategic Plan notes that we are striving to Inspire Play by promoting active living, well-being, and community in San Francisco – so let’s make sure we don’t forget about ourselves! With the growing pressure of healthcare costs on employers, the role of a wellness program is taking on an increased importance in the workplace. Workplace wellness programs improve employee morale, reduce injury and illness, reduce company healthcare costs and increase occupational productivity on many levels. We promote the Wellness Network as a combination of educational, organizational, and environmental activities designed to support the healthy behaviors of RPD staff and their families. We all went platinum! Our good friends at the Health Services System (HSS) recently recognized departments from all across the City for their wellness efforts in 2018 – and for the second year in a row we won an award! Thanks to the healthy habits and wellness activities you have all incorporated into your day, this year we won the Platinum Award! That’s the top award! Congratulations to all of us for taking a little time out of our busy work lives to take care of ourselves – to take a deep breath, do a plank, do a squat, take a walk, stretch, eat better, and squeeze the ever-loving-heck out of that stress ball. A special thank you to our Wellness Network, who helps us remember that a better, healthier us…is a better, more productive SFRPD. The Wellness Network is: Thomas Angelone, Thomas Borawski, Jeffrey Bramlett, Cristina Garcia, Kin Gee, Rachelle Henley, Melissa Keesor, Eric Pawlowsky, Emily Vasquez, and our fearless HSS Leaders: Carrie Beshears and Lisa Ocampo.
